The Mid-Week Mumble: World Record Attempt

At the turn of the year I sat there wondering…wondering what I could do to make 2010 better than 2009…

I vowed to join a sports team in a bid to improve my health and fitness – one month later and I’ve joined my local football (I mean s-s-soccer) team – done! I said that I would be more organised – done, with the help of my luxury personal organiser and white board. I also said that I wanted to break or set a world record – ah, not much progress on this front I’m afraid.

Then again, there’s still just under 11 months to achieve this goal so I’m not too worried. Yet.

Truth be told though, I have absolutely no idea exactly what record I’m going to attempt. I’ve looked on the Guinness World Records website and their criteria are fairly strict, so just meeting the requirements is a task in itself. Then there’s the nature of the record…

I’m not so keen on protruding my eyeballs from my skull, and unless I have a growth spurt to over 8’ 11" between now and December 31st, I’m not going to be claiming the tallest person title. I’ll pass on anything to do with insects or excessive exercise, ice blocks, hot coals, holding my breath or eating unnatural things.

Perhaps I could break the record for fastest time eating a 12" pizza (currently held by a New Zealander) – but I’d have to practice and that wouldn’t tie in well with my footie training!

So you see, I’m really in a boggle here – perhaps you could help me out? If you have any suggestions – no matter how wacky – make a comment here. It would be great if it was something associated with OTB…in fact, if you come up with something viable that incorporates OTB in some way, we’ll reward you with a prize once the record is set!
