The Mid-Week Mumble: Whatever Happened To The Close-Ups Competition?

Some time ago, in my early days with Off The Back, I was instructed to come up with a competition…

The result was the tremendously difficult and seriously cunning ‘Close-Ups Competition’ and boy did people find it hard!

I think it’s safe to say that after more than four months, and with many of the items no longer fresh in people’s memories, it’s time to bring this competition to a close! So here’s the answers:

1. Promark Utility knife
2. Mini TV Spy Remote
3. USB Video Capture Device
4. Solar Charger
5. Ultimate Mouse Pad
6. Apple Speakers
7. A Box Of Pam’s Tissues (Red Herring)

I bet that’s a great weight off your minds? Or maybe not!

Truth be told, nobody even came close to solving this problem. Perhaps the prize of a USB missile launcher just wasn’t enough to tempt you into making the effort? Perhaps it really was just too hard? Probably, it was a mixture of both.

The bottom line is that I can’t stand losing – this competition was a chance for me to pit my wits against the world, and I wasn’t about to be humbled by some ‘smarty pants’. And now I realise that this was wrong…

So now I make a promise: That the next competition we run will be realistically achievable given a reasonable (not excessive) amount of thought/work. I’m not about to lay down a cake-walk – by any stretch of the imagination – but I’ll do my best to make it better than last time.

Don’t get me wrong though – I still want to beat you. All of you…

I actually didn't know about the competition!

Since orienteering 3 mystery deals I have not had the "Off the Back" page come through, as it always did. Is this normal?

I found it hard because the full size pictures were no longer there, couldn't see to much....hhhmmm I think I just solved another of my problems by reading what I just typed.
