The Mid-Week Mumble: Christmas Music

Posted at Thu 10 Dec, at 09:34:00 in General By Tom A

Oh dear! It’s that time of year again…

Now we at Off The Back love Christmas just as much as the next person. Who wouldn’t enjoy pigging-out on indulgent treats, sharing more than a few beverages with friends or receiving cool presents? And Christmas songs are all part of the fun, too.

However, one thing that really caused tension the other day was my decision to treat the office to a bout of Christmas music, which included such wonders as ‘Slade – Merry Christmas Everybody’, ‘Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer’ and ‘Mr Hanky: The Christmas Poo’!

James was the first to revolt – peeking his frowning mug round the door and angrily stating “my speakers can go a lot louder than yours”. With that, the door slammed and the bassy sound of thumping techno could be heard in the background.

Robert did not have the luxury of his own office, and kept silent through Slade and Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. His first thought must have been to embrace this annoyance and hope it gets better, as he cut in with a festive tune of his own. The novelty soon wore off though, and after a round of Mr Hanky: The Christmas Poo, he pretended to receive a phone call and exited the office for quite some time!

Maybe it was lack of coffee, perhaps the timing wasn’t right just before lunch, or maybe I had crossed the line between festive spirit and cheesy lameness?

I had been shut-out and abandoned. I was an office reject, along with the broken chair and the franking machine. Look where my Christmas spirit had landed me!

Needless to say, I’ve not done it since, and won’t again until the 24th – my lesson is well and truly learned.

Merry Christmas to everybody!

lol aaahhh.... to be a fly on the wall.

Every year, I find myself, from out of no-where pops the tunes of Christmas Songs.

"Christmas Bells, oh Christmas Bells, ringing through the land......"

"Hark now hear the angels sing......"

oh and

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, nah nah nah nana nah nah naaahhhhhhh"

Of course, no-one else is to impressed, as I walk around singing.... out of tune.....then the song is stuck in my head, so repetitive singing, out of tune, songs being sung, and a few wrong words being sung, is what every one has to listen too.
Someone quickly tries to either, play another song, or sing a different tune, just to get me side tracked.
I notice as the children grow, so has the fine tuning of their musical skills.
At 1-3 years old - it was, "wow" (clap clap)....
4-5 years old - Would sing along with me, not fully knowing the words.....
6 years old - Come home and teach me some new Christams songs from school....
7-8 years old - quietly snigger.....
9-10 years old - laugh louder and right in front of me....
11-13 years old - Bursts of "OH MUM!" (Totally embarrased).....
14 - 15 years old... - Sigh....You do the same songs eeevveerryy year!.....
16 plus - Turns and walks out of the room....

LOL oh well, another year, another out of tune song sung....and what's the bet, they will do that with their children.

Everyone have a great holiday season........

and, one, two, three....
"Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, had a very shiny nose, um er nah nah na na um err "It glows"...Then one stormy......

:):)
